Description:
"COLUMBIA" paddle wheel boat. One can just imagine this boat traveling down the Mississippi cruising by St. Louis. A number of companies made paper litho over wood boats, the Bradley Company of Massachusetts usually used more muted colors than their counterparts Bliss or Converse. A fine lithographed tin banding surrounding the upper deck and rear of lower deck further add to the appeal of this boat. A rounded pilot house atop the second floor cabins with a spotter, a wheelman and another sailor can be seen upon close examination. Dual smoke stacks, working walking beam and at the rear a large cloth flag adorning the deck. The boat glides along the floor by a series of wooden wheels that are all but hidden. Larger center wheels also activate the walking beam on cabin roof. A similar example is found on page 89 of Louis Hertz's The Toy Collector.
