Company history and description of the company Hess from Nuremberg, Germany

In 1826 the company was founded by Mathias Hess who manufactured toys until he died in 1886. The company Hess Nuremberg is one of the first toy manufacturer. His son John Leonard Hess took over in the meantime the company, which also explains the brand name JLH
Although they produced very inexpensive toy similar the Penny Toy, the toys were of lasting quality, so there are still many pieces of well-preserved today. In addition to railway ground runners of all sizes with and without movement they produced mainly operating models, cars with flywheel, carriages, ships, houses, animal figures and small toys as Penny Toy. Due to the rapid growth the company had to move often.
Joh Leonhard Hess died in 1909, his four sons continued the firm.
1941 the toy production was terminated at the beginning of the Second World War, the company was liquidated.
