Company history and description of the company WILESCO Wilhelm Schröder GmbH & Co, Metallwarenfabrik, Lüdenscheid, Germany
In 1912 the firm was founded by Wilhelm Schroeder and Ernst Wortmann. Initially, aluminum cutlery and template sets were produced. After World War I they alos produced doll's china set. The sale was so successful that the company survived the Great Depression 1929/30.
1950 began the production of toy steam engines and operating models. Due to cost of productionthey could produce cheaper than the competition. For cost reasons, the flywheel was only five spokes and expensive products were not produced.
1966 was the starting signal for the steam roller "Old Smoky" as a stand-wheeled locomotive. The range of steam engines reached 50% of total sales of the company.
