Company history and description of the company Alexander Doll Company

In 1923 Beatrice Alexander Behrmann (23 years old ) founded the Alexander Doll Company.
Her first dolls were made of cloth, the later dolls were made of porcelain, and her company was one of the first using hard plastic.
In the 1930s she produced licensed characters like "Alice?s Adventures in Wonderland" or "Gone With the Wind".
In the 1940s they developed the first sleeping eyes for dolls, means the the eyes could open and close.
In 1990 Madame Alexander passed away, but the company further creates dolls under a new ownership.
Most of the dolls are marked on their back or head with an Alexander marking like AX, ALEX, or Mme Alexander in an oval.
