1947, the company Lesney Products was founded by the friends Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith in London.
They started with the production of large and expensive model cars.
From 1952 they started with the production of very small cars, trains and other vehicles in the format of a matchbox.
1956 appeared the first generations of "Models of Yesteryear" in 1:43 scale.
In the 1970s the Machtbox cars got cult.
Sometimes all little metal cars were known as "Matchbox cars", regardless who produced them.
On 11 June 1982, the company went bankrupt.
The rights were bought by Universal Toys.
