Louis Bleriot (1872 - 1936) was the first person to fly from Calais to Dover on the English Channel on July 25, 1909 with the Bleriot XI, which he himself constructed. It took him 37 minutes to cover the 35 km, giving an average speed of 57 km/h, the average flight height was 100m.
