Description:

Monkey on Tricycle made of cast iron, Japan diversion, articulated legs, riding a tricycle with frame and wheels. As the bike moves forward, the monkey s legs move up and down and the rear mounted bell rings. This toy was patented in 1883 by Harry S Lockwood of South Norwalk Connecticut and manufactured by the J & E Stevens Company of Cromwell, Connecticut. The monkey on tricycle bell toy is made of 17 separate cast iron parts making it the most complicated bell toy produced by Stevens. When the toy is pulled along, the monkey pedals the tricycle. He is pinned at the hips, knees and shoulders so that he can pedal the velocipede very realistically and his hands can be lifted off the handlebars if desired.
